target="_blank" Is Tanning Toast?

This article by one of my favorite beauty blogs is really intriguing. As someone how tends to have a slight tan throughout the year (because I’m Italian) I have noticed that my friends don’t seem to come home from the Caribbean with and intense tan anymore. These past two weeks I have been in Italy soaking up the rays. As I always do, I lathered on the sunscreen. I do tend to burn if I don’t because my mother is Irish (her freckles make her look tan) . But all around me are these Italians, sunbathing with no sun screen,maybe even tanning oil. Looking closer you can see these old women and men with unhealthy overly tanned skin. I even saw one girl who from behind was so dark she looked African American. Yes they are not going to tanning booths but it is still unhealthy. My friend who I’m staying with says those who are pasty white are not healthy because they get no sun. I had to explain to her that even if they are pale they are still getting sun. Maybe they burn easily so they lather on the sunblock. Yes I’m still white compared to most people here in Italy, but I know that I am staying healthy by putting on sunblock and not tanning.
